- Reinforcing vs. Balancing Loops: technology adoption curves, rebound effects.
- Delays & Nonlinearity: policy lag, infrastructure inertia, S-curves.
- Leverage Points (Meadows): parameters > feedbacks > design > goals > mindsets.
- MLP: disruptive niches scale under landscape pressure and regime cracks.
Hands-On: Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) for EV Adoption
- Map loops: cost ↓ → demand ↑ → learning-by-doing → cost ↓ (reinforcing).
- Counter-loops: grid stress → reliability concerns → demand ↓ (balancing).
- Introduce policies (subsidies, standards) and observe loop shifts.
Assignment
Task: Create a CLD for your chosen sector transition. Annotate 3 leverage points and propose one intervention per point. (Slide deck, 6–8 slides.)
